Album Review: Samskaras- Asunder

For fans of Nile, Fallujah, Rivers of Nihil, Conquering Dystopia

Montreal, Quebec, CA has been a huge front runner in the technical death metal scene, spawning forth internationally touring artists like Cryptopsy, Neuraxis, Beyond Creation and Gorguts. Samskaras are quickly on their way to reaching a spot among these greats.

Eric Burnet (Guitar- Derelict, Unburnt) has teamed up with Alexandre Dupras (Drums- Teramobil, Unhuman) to produce a sound that’s both brutal and beautiful, very much akin to bands like the aforementioned Fallujah and Rivers of Nihil.  Aside from drums, Burnet does everything on the EP, showcasing off his incredible playing and writing abilities.
It’s also worth mentioning that Asunder was  produced by Chris Donaldson of Cryptopsy.

According to their bio, the duo is looking forward to entering the live music scene in the near future; they’re certainly a band to keep an eye out for in 2017. (Fellow Buffalonians, if you don’t mind a bit of a drive, these guys are definitely worth a small road trip.)

Asunder is due out January 20, in just over a week, presumably on their Bandcamp, as well as all your other favorite streaming services.  Make sure you save some change and pick this one up! You won’t be disappointed, and I definitely haven’t steered you wrong yet! This EP is truly tech death at its finest. It’s just killer death metal vocals, riffing and drumming from two pros in the Montreal scene.

We have one track from Asunder we can post at the moment:

And if that didn’t sufficiently wet your whistle, check out Samskara’s first two singles, “Red Hill” and “Consecrate”:

Last but not least, we’d like to give a huge shout out to Rob from Mind Eraser PR. None of us would’ve stumbled across Samskaras without him. Cheers!
