Show Preview: Pain of Salvation at Buffalo Iron Works

David Karczewski from Gazing Rabbit Productions is bringing yet another show to Buffalo you never thought you’d see. All the way from Eskilstuna, Sweden, comes Pain of Salvation; a progressive rock/metal outfit, notorious for concept albums, syncopation, polyrhythms, abrupt contrast/transitions and an incredible vocal range.

The band is fronted by Daniel Gildenlow (songwriter, lyricist, vocalist, guitarist). He technically started the band way back in 1984 under the name Reality, but they became known as Pain of Salvation in 1991. Their first album, Entropia would follow in 1997.

Now, 20 years later, the group is touring their latest release, In the Passing Light of Day, which is hailed by most as yet another prog rock triumph, while incorporating some staples from modern rock and metal. The album is very riff oriented and as usual, it’s also vocally tremendous. The closing track, “The Passing Light of Day”, clocks in at just over fifteen minutes and is just heartbreaking (in a positive way). This record may not be as “prog” as previous releases, but it is certainly one of their most emotional albums to date.

Pain of Salvation will be playing at Buffalo Iron Works on Friday, February 24, 2017. Local support will be handled by David Karczewski’s own prog rock project, Turning Virtue. Furthermore, Gazing Rabbit Productions are also offering a special promotion on this show through this article.
