This year, the stage is set at Mohawk Place once again for the 2nd annual Buffalo Metal Fest. As has been done in the past, the production of this event is a joint effort between Chad Grant from Mass Casualty and Jeff Standish from Coming of Rage Productions.
Last year, the goal was 12 bands. Things didn’t end up panning out in full, but this September, the fest is bouncing back with 15 acts representing Buffalo, Rochester, Cleveland and other markets.
We talked with Chad today about his plans for both this year and next. This year’s sponsors include Chad’s body shop Dent Wizard, Timeless Babez arts and crafts, a tattoo shop or two yet to be decided and The Metallic Onslaught Radio show. Speaking of Metallic Onslaught, it’s also worth mentioning that Rick Horton will be the emcee for the entire fest. So, if at any point you’re confused about which band is going on next, you’ll have Rick’s infamous persuasive yelling to remind you.
This year’s food supply for bands and patrons alike is also still in talks, but there will most likely be a mountain of hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere provided by someone, just like last year.
Chad, Jeff and everyone else involved in the fest will be having a few more meetings between now and September to discuss further food arrangements and sponsorship, but for now, BMF 2K18 is looking to completely outdo last year’s effort.
The plan for BMF 2K19 is a different animal entirely. Chad’s looking to finally get the event outdoors and in an environment where camping can be an option without annoyances like underage drinking ruining things for everyone. But all that is another story for another day.
Buffalo Metal Festival 2018 is on September 29 at Mohawk Place. Also, if you’re unfamiliar with Chad’s band Mass Casualty, check out their latest album Preparing the Dead below:
